I have a 1979 Cutlass Supreme Brougham with the 260. I have a '68 350 block to start with but I've had a hard time finding any Olds parts worth buying to build it, namely heads, and a crank. I have a friend(who I got the 350 block from) who has a 454 Chevy he wants to get rid of for a reasonable price. I was thinking about trading him back the block and cash for the BBC. I know it has been done before and I was wondering if there are any tricks I should know to get it done. Is there is another forum someone could refer me to for help if no one here can help? Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. Am I crazy for thinking about this?

Hi matthami, hello everyone,

Welcome to TOC.

Olds V8 parts are not hard to find. By "build", what do you mean?

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/ It's the best I've found, so far.

"Can" is not the question, "will" is. If you wanted to put an Olds into a Chevelle, you would be at the right place.

Either way, it is so close to a "bolt in" few people even consider it a "swap".

No. Why do you ask?

Regards, Norm

Come on man ,Stay with the oldsmobile motor, Somebody must of hit you in the head with a chevy hub cap ! It cost a lot more to rebuild an Olds rocket but the joy of smoking a Stang or a Camaro with a Rocket is second to none ! Anyway , Ebay is the best place to purchase these items.
Your best bet would be to try and find a comlete 350 olds, do a complete rebuild / mild cam and decent exhaust and you would be good to go ! The cast Iron intake [4-BBl ] flows better than people think ! Stay with the oldsmobile !

:) Thanks for the advice, omegaman. It's been a while since I starting thinking about going with the BBC. I discovered that a friend of mine had a '72 that was complete and I got almost got hooked. It was just a phase. Up to that point I thought the exact same way you did. I have decided to stick with an Olds 350 since I already have a '68 block. The current motor is a 260 so it will be a direct bolt up. I just need to find the heads that I want (#5s) and I will go from there.
However there has been a twist. I have been put on orders to deploy to Kosovo for a year so it will have to wait-AGAIN. By the time I get back I'll have enough money to actually rebuild this motor. I have decided to stick with the Rocket though. I'm definitely on the same page as you.

You're first comment was funny by the way!!!!
