I've been working on this project for quite some time, and it's finally starting to pay off. I bought up all of the ornaments I came across, even if they were faded/cracked.

The 78-80 Calais Crest emblem is extremely rare to find in good condition. The red dye is notorious for fading to blue/green.

I have access to a machine shop CNC mill, and a student version of AutoCad 2009. Being unable to find a mint condition Calais Crest, I decided to machine my own badges for the ornaments I already have, even if they aren't 100% historically accurate because of the machines limitations.

Here's a look at what I've produced so far.

From left to right
Original badge, failed attempt #1 (melted, cut speed to high), failed #2 (line of code to pick tool up was missing), finished product.

Mock-up of the badge before I prime/paint it.

I'm going to use a silver paint pen for the lettering, metallic red foil leaf for the background, and it will be sealed with an assload of clearcoat to prevent it from being waterlogged.

What do you guys think?

Also, if you're interested in buying a set of these, PM or email me, and we can work something out.

I couldn't help it, I had to make a custom set to go with my nickname, "Anubis". (I earned it exploring/photographing abandoned & very dead buildings.)

Silver is done, just need to get some black paint and sealer, and some uber-strong double sided tape.

I decided to play with the originals, as well.

From start to finish, this was my test piece to see how if it was even feasible to clean up and repaint the originals.

Came out O.K.

Here's hoping the doublestick adhesive will hold up to weather!

I'm going to do alot of things differently when I do the other faded one.

Mainly, not pry the badges out with a knife, and use a much finer brush for the gold.
