I just got an Olds Delta 88 Royale Brougham. and I want to know if anyone knows anything about fixing the UART line.

I replaced the crank shaft pulley and the battery. As well as changing the oil since I've owned it. After doing all three my car wouldn't start. It turns over and the gas is getting to the engine. but it stops there. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. My front blinker isn't lighting up due to a minor collision from the previous owner. and the back one isn't lighting up either even though it wasn't harmed. Information on that would help as well.

Doc Fay

Hi DocFayRoyale,

Welcome to TOC.

UART = Short for universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter.

What is that in automotive terms?

Did it start before you did all three?

Using a VOM (Volt, OHM, Meter):

Test both bulbs. If OK, check the connections (both power and grounds) for proper contacts. If OK, test the circuits to the turn signal switch. If OK, test the switch.

Regards, Norm

It may sound stupid, but check the sparkplugs? My family had an '85 Delta 88 Royale (I have the Brougham), and if the car is started, running for less than 15 minutes or so, then shut off, it kills the spark plugs quickly. If they haven't been replaced in awhile, check them. I wish I knew a little more, but thought I'd give my two cents.

(I think I've made this suggestion before.. Oops.)
