Possibly a draft if the bill goes through....but I have doubts it will....
Can affect a lot of the members here, thought I'd post it, and you can take action too.

Quote:
administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections

Quote:
$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005.

Quote:
Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. College and Canada will not be options.

Quote:
In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country.

Good luck doing that....

if the good old USA was in so much trouble that they had to call up the selective service... I'd go in a heartbeat. (it woud have to be pretty bad for the govt. to do that) Otherwise, I'll let the people who actually signed up for it take care of business. But if things were so bad that they had to start drafting people I definitely wouldn't run. I've enjoied a free country so far and I want the next generations to have the same!

Capitol.org is a website ran by a special interest lobbying group, if you follow the links they explain it. It does NOT represent the Federal Government nor the present administration and I can guarantee you that the administration does not want conscription (the draft). It is a theft of an individual's labor, smacks of socialism, and doesn't work. The system we have now works fine so why try to fix it. The only lawmakers I am aware of recently that tried to introduce legislation for the draft are both Democrats. If a person doesn't want to serve their country in military service that's fine with me, if they don't want to participate in a draft, that's fine with me too, they can go (run) to another country. I served 21 years beginning in 1975 at the very end of the vietnam conflict in the United States Navy and am proud I did.

Brando, to my knowledge you don't have any regulations preventing political talk on this website so I contributed, if so, you can delete my post but if you do, the rest should be deleted as well.......

DOH!!! you started this post, so it must be ok
