O.K. I am new here and hoping someone can help me out. I have and 88 cutlass and the car runs great I have replaced the thermostat and water pump. After doing this the car started leaking water from behind the timing belt housing ( or crankshaft housing not sure wich it is called ) but on my 2.8 V6 there are water ports so i thought it was the gasket gone bad. Well I have put it all back to gether and i am still leaking water from behind there some where. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP HOPEFULLY HAVE HEARD OR SEEN THIS BEFORE I AM AT A LOSE.

ps I have checked all freeze plugs none are the problem no oil in my water and no crack in the block that i can see.

The heater hose connections, that run to that area,not the firewall side but the engine side, would be my first item to check. Make sure there tightened down.

OK sorry bout the caps. The time lapse between the leak and the water pump was about 2 weeks max. The hoses are all conected and the leak is coming from under the altenator. The timing belt housing has a resivoir through it and thought thats what went bad. Fixed that and still have the leak. The only thing back there is the freeze plugs ( wich are good ) and the gasket on the housing which is now new. If i am anoying anyone buy asking this I aploigize and if i need to stop asking please just say so and I would really like this explained to me please.

Hey jay,
I would do a pressure test then, and see if you can pinpoint where your having your leak, although i still suspect the heater hose connections, it could be due to improper installation as well. I'd make sure your surfaces are very clean, and use copper RTV on both sides of the gaskets, and let it sit over night before filling it back in the morning. But best of luck to you on this one they can really be a pita, sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Thanks, the pressure test is worth a try but i have also used some uv dye to pin piont the leak thank you for the replys we will see how it goes. Once again thanks.
