Anyone know if there is a way to retrieve the ecm codes without the use of the "check engine" light?
How hard would it be to replace the bulb in the check engine light on a 83 cutlass?
Could there be another reason the check engine light isn't coming on at all...not even on start up?

Thanks in advance,

You can read codes off an ecm using a laptop, a custom cable and ALDL software. I have a whole article on building one in the tech section. I believe I have also seen small plug-in modules with a digital read-out that will recall codes also.

The best idea though, and likely your cheapest solution is to replace the bulb. Sorry, I cannot enlighten you on the remove & replacement procedure on your car. I am sure someone here can give you a better idea on the work involved.
