I just replaced my engine and transmission. I had taken them both out of the car, sent the trans back to the manufacturer, but the engine sat for about 2 months before i got the new trans. After putting the enine and trans in, the engine gives errativ power when driving. here is what it does: it starts and idles fine, it even revs in nuetral fine. but when in drive the engine gives ver erratic power, and sometimes makes a 'huffing' noise that comes from te intake, in which case the rpms drop dramatically. I feel like it is an electrical prolem. any ideas???

A Huffing noise coming from the intake? The intake manifold or the throttle body?

if by the throttle body you mean the air filter assembly then yes. It sounds like the engine is spitting air out the intake

well... Check the connections to the IAC motor (IAC = Intake Air Control), which regulates air flow to the engine when warming the car up. When the IAC is on, I can hear what sounds like a hissing coming from my air filter.

You likely have the same engine as mine being your is 1986, and thats the only thing I can think of that would cause a sound like that? It would make sense that if this motor valve isnt hooked up that increased suction would pull it closed, choking off your motor? Just a suggestion.
