How come everything has to go at once! Alright, so last night I look out the window and notice under my car there was a little wet spot under my car. Just shrugged it off. Well today I go to check it out. I thought it might of been oil and the oil plug was loose. Nope, anti-freeze. So I feel under the pump and yup, sure as hell, wet. Now it has NEVER leaked before, untill I loosened the belt to get the alternator off and currently is still loose cause the alternator is still being re-built. Now is this a coincidence or not?

Now, question is, how hard is it to replace? Looks sorta easy, but just wanted to ask how hard is it?

I guess it's expected at 114K, but damn this is the second one, I can tell it's a different one. Also the alternator was a AC Delco Remanufactured :shock:

87delta, had the water pump off mine when I did my timing chain.

I cannot remember to-a-tee, but I beleive once you get the alternator off, the water pump has a fair number of bolts, and it just comes off. I dont remember any other parts that had to come off.

I have to do my water pump soon, as I am hearing either bearing or impeller noise at idle. Its such an annoying rattling sound, one of my brother's friends asked me if I had a hot cam in my car, after hearing the car idle. I said no, just a peice of shit waterpump.

Out of curiosity, can you describe the sound the alternator bearing was making prior to you changing it?

Brando - does ALLDATA have recommended procedure for waterpump R&R on the VIN 3 3.8L? Just curious.

Kinda like a knockie, knockie dink dink. If you think the bearings are bad in your alternator, just loosen the belt and spin the alt by hand. If you feel like the bearings are gritty, time to get a re-build. Kinda can't describe it well...

And I looked up on Ebsco host, and it looks very easy to do. Just kinda weird it leaking all of a sudden once I had the belt loose. No biggie, mom's picking me up a new one after work. Shes pissed though :lol:

Water Pump: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove drive belts and disconnect radiator hoses and heater hoses from pump.
3. Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts. The long bolt is accessed through hole in body side rail. Remove pump pulley.
4. Remove water pump attaching bolts and the water pump.
5. Reverse procedure to install.

Sucks to drain the cooling system again after only 420 miles :( Now I gotta wait on my alternator to get everything buttoned up to see if it leaks again or not. :x

Nice job, Adam. :D The impeller in your old pump somewhat resembles the one in my new one. I like the new one you've got. The casing looks beefier and the impeller set looks impressive. By any chance it's an AC Delco pump? And how much was it?

Auto-Zone Duralast pump. :lol: $29.99. Lifetime warrantee, can't beat it.
