Hey everyone, lately i've been driving my delta alot and have noticed that when im driving pretty fast, or just keeping up with traffic on the highway and get off or slow down to come to a stop sign im seeing my "oil/choke" light flicker.

the rpms drop a little lower then usual and almost feels like it wants to stall. it doesnt stay illuminated and im seeing no codes logged to the OBD except code 12.

It only does it when im driving harder then usual. Other than that, nothing really out of the ordinary has happened and it runs like a champ.

just curious as to why the lights coming on and no error codes are logged. any ideas much appreciated.

Good discription. You made it easy for me.


First, check your oil level. If it's above the "add mark" and it's not due for a change, you're OK. Under those conditions it's normal for an engine that's "broken in".

1) Your drop in idle speed is caused by a slight change in fuel mixture.
2) Lower idle = lower oil pump speed.
3) Higher than normal oil temp = thinner oil.

The above 3 factors cause the oil pressure, at the sending unit, to be at the switching point, (usually about 2 to 4 lbs) not enough pressure to light the bulb, but too much to keep it off.

As long as it goes off when the idle speed is back to normal, you have no problem.


What does a code 12 tell you to check?


No need for the computer to tell you what the OP light already told you.

As far as the "choke" portion of that light, I don't have a clue. I don't need a light to know if my choke is working or not.
