I would like start a discussion about....88 Coupe!

I would like to know other peoples opinions about this eccentric character!
Some of you may feel he is most of time "overboard" when it comes to his postings, and his ability to overtake alot of the threads with his lengthy debating, and arrogant maneuvers. Some of you may feel he has good intentions, no need to ask how I feel about it!

I am by no means trying to cause "defamation of character" that would be wrong of me to do so.

These are only opinions that "YOU" would like to express. If anybody takes offence to this please speak up and I'll address it accordingly.

I left this site once before due to the "ongoing annoyance" from his post reply tactics. I came back assuming it may have ended due to the extensive boredom he might have induced us with. I, Knowing that if I leave(again)to another site, WILL NOT have an affect on anyone here by me doing so. However I do understand that his information proves valuable to some! But how he pushes topics to the extreme could cause some members to take offence and not return..I cannot prove this theory, but it is something for "YOU" to think about!

If you wish not to leave a comment on this subject you have a choice!

If you would like to participate in this poll I provided as an option by all means go ahead!

Regards!

As someone who is involved with Oldsmobiles on a larger scale (National Advisor for Oldsmobile Club of America , 1982-1996 Cutlass Ciera/Cruiser Models) an Oldsmobile owner (1985 Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham-Holiday) a weekend mechanic (I do what I can in my garage both for the cost benefits and the experience) and a long time member of this site ( I’m #59 of over 1,000 in terms of how long I've been here) I can say that I highly value Norm's opinion, guidance, and urge to keep this site as informative and correct as possible.

Norm is no joke; he is also a member of OCA and owns some serious Oldsmobiles. His experience in repair work and general Oldsmobile history makes him an asset to this site. As someone who provides information to other Oldsmobile owners via my National Advisor status, I understand how important it is to get all the facts before sending someone information that can cause them more harm then good. Incorrect information isn't worth the time it takes to type.

In my time here, Norm has always proven to be helpful and understanding as long as the poster(s) give him the information he needs to help, and abstain from answering a post with false information, flames, etc. which only make it harder for us all to find information on this site. I have seen other Oldsmobile related sites which lost their credibility due to post going unchecked and false facts being treated like scientific data by unknowing visitors. There are some reasons why Norm has to be tough.

When giving information to another member (such as production numbers) it is important to give the source. Not only does it allow the facts to be verified, but giving the source allows the membership to be able to use it for further research in the future. The easy why to avoid the "eccentric character" that is 88coupe from digging deep for information that isn't there is to give him all the information in the first place.

A good example of what we want to avoid is found on a site I used to visit often. At this site, there are many articles on questions such as "How to replace the headliner?". Since the site isn't well run, and the members there don't want to offend anyone, they allow many new members to start new topics on this subject instead of giving them a link to one of the many older articles on the same subject.

It is important for us all to use this site as the exception to the internet's majority of misinformation and make it as useful to the membership as possible. Norm does this on a daily basis with his no holds approach to cut out the false fat from the real meat of a topic. Instead of attacking someone like Norm who searches for the truth and values doing the right thing over competing in a popularity contest with other members, should be lauded by the membership as someone who actually cares about the results of his actions.

In my opinion, reading the facts in Norm's posts is key to understanding what he is all about.

For someone with limited knowledge and experience in working with cars, I find Norm extremely helpful. One thing I learned early on through his answering my threads, or answering someone else's, is that you'd better come "proper" when you deal with him. That is, don't talk like a master mechanic when you've never even changed a spark plug before!!!

Also, IMHO, Norm's so-called "arrogance" is blown way out of proportion. His bluntness is refreshing to me, especially for a novice such as myself. When I'm learning to do a job--any job-- the right way, I want good information from a knowledgable source, no matter where I get it or how it's delivered to me from someone.

Hello all,

Been at home for awhile with no access... good to be back.

I will continue from what has already been (well) said.

I appriciate Norm's not beating around the bush. He is direct and to the point, which is nice in a day and age where everything has to be "PC" and treated with kid gloves.

His advice is invaluable, and his dedication to Oldsmobile unmeasureable.

I understand that he can irriate some, but only if they intrepret it as such. If you read it for what it is, and dont put emotion into it, it becomes much clearer.

Regards, and Happy Holidays,

Andrew

Maybe, just maybe, the biased opinion originates with the creation of this thread...

Remember, as someone I know once put it "If you think you won't like the answer, then don't ask the question"
;-)

Erroneous Restrictionism!, God I wish you would drop off the face of the earth so those of us who enjoy educated discussion, which this site is a breading ground for, can get back to doing just so. Why do you feel a need to prove yourself in every post? After having the members of this site constantly standing up for Norm and getting bugged by you, I would hope by now you might ask yourself "Maybe its me?

So now your speaking on everyone elses behalf! That's pretty bold.

"Educated Discussions"? are you an "Educated Technician"?
What are your thoughts on an "Educated Discussion"?

I feel no need to prove anything to anybody.
I just read what I see and voice what I want to!...If you have a problem with me then bring it up with the Administration Dept!

"God I wish you would drop off the face of the earth"....? Interesting!!
Would that help you sleep better at night if I did?

It seems to me that I can get under your skin a little more than you thought! Do you have a problem with my comments/statements/critique? You can "ACCEPT" or "NOT ACCEPT" my "OPINIONS"! It's quite simple really!

"Standing up for Norm"? Is that cause nobody wants to feel inferior because of him, so they "accept" it!?
Sure!...He knows his shit! But that doesn't mean he's right when he replies to questions with questions. It just means he doesn't "Get it".
The only one I see being bothered by this is you, I guess you could say I can keep you on your toes!

Wow, what are you trying to prove? Seriously, why did you become a big dick all of a sudden? Tryin' to be an e-tough guy? Surely ain't impressing on me or anyone else.

I always thought Norm being irritating asking questions in a response, but after realizing you constantly mocking him, he is right. The questions he ask are relevant to the cause, gaining more information to better serve an answer. You, sir, are just trying to make yourself looking better. Always saying "take it to a reputable shop" is a worthless reply. Do you think the original posters wanted to hear that? Why would they post their question in the first place if they weren't doing that on their own and just taking it to a shop. Doesn't make sense to me.

I'm glad to know people like you don't last. Sure, I might have made a couple trouble post in the past, but a dozen in a row, theres no point in it. You seem to try to belittle everyone else to make yourself feel better. I hope it's working, because I'm only laughing at your attempts to be knowledgeable.

Administration Dept is well aware of the issue.

Norm has taught each of us here something. For that, I am thankful. If you watch your p's & q's, admit to mistakes, everyone can exist on the same forum.
