The little Tshaped lever, on the center console (I have the three speed automatic), with the little pushbutton, it broke off in my hand yesterday, as I was prepping my Olds to (finally) be driven.

You can see it while it was still attached in the middle picture here

I mean, I just went to put it in park, and it just snapped right off!

I've tried some plastic appoxy, but to no avail.

I would like to know, where do I look for parts like this? I've called local and not so local junkyards, and they don't even have a car like this, let alone parts.

JC Whitney offers this thing, but I would really like a stock one, even if the colors are off.

The shift works, its just really awkward and somewhat sharp without that piece on it.
I really have no preference, I just need something to fill the gap.

My situation is that I just registered and insured it yesterday, and now I have two weeks to get it inspected.

Will they fail me if I don't have that?

Also, will they fail me if the windshield washer doesn't spray on the windshield?

Thanks guys!

Not sure where you are at but I would say that you are probably okay on the shifter, but I think that the windshield washer fluid thing might fail you. I say that becasue that is a safety issue if you have something splashed on your windshield and can't get it off. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Do not call. Remove the rest of it, and replace it with this thing. Then take the broken pieces with you, to verify that one from a '62 Impala is the same part.

When you do find the one you want, you can sell this thing on Ebay.

Very possible. If it cannot easily be put into Park, I'd say more than possible. "Somewhat sharp" does not help.

Only if your laws require it to be operable. Your DMV has a web site that can tell you more than you want to hear about your inspection rules.
