There isn't much support for "bolt-on-upgrades" for the 3.1. You can do things like add a "CAI" but one thing to keep in mind is that when the sun goes down, it's still a 3.1. The benefits of "easy mods" are negligible, if even noticeable. In stock form, the 3.1 has an ample intake, so upgrades don't do much. The greater benefit of these modifications for most is that they look pretty when they "show off" the engine.
I have a K&N air filter on my car, and about the only thing it is good for is a little more intake noise.
The best thing you can do for performance is give the car a full tune up, keep a clean air filter in it, and enjoy it.
