I grew up next to an Oldsmobile dealership and in the late 50's or early 60's I seem to remember and advertisement that featured an airplane powered by an Oldsmobile engine. This was an advertisment for the car, not for an airplane engine. I have a co-worker that does not think this is true. Does anyone have a link to one of these advertisements or some other proof of it's existence?

Not an ad, but probably as close as you will get to one, as Olds never made aircraft engines.

The whole deal with the advertisement was to show the quality of the engine and that it was "trusted" enough to power an airplane. I realize that Olds never did make an aircraft engine for resale. This was just an advertising campaign. I am not a BS......artist. I posted this as a sincere query and expect the same professional attitude from others on this website!

Not what potential car buyers were interested in.

The manufacturers never tried selling "trust" until it was too late.

You need to realize that you are not the only one who will read this thread.

If someone said you were, I missed it.

Since I am the only one who replied, I will assume you are referring to something I said.

Note, that I am "professional" enough to properly "quote" the statements I respond to, so that there can be no doubt about who, and what, I am addressing. This is called "common courtesy" which I expect from anyone I encounter.

Norm, I was not talking about your reply. I appreciate your reply and took no offense to what you said. Thank you for the information as I found it most interesting as well. I was referring to another reply that I guess must have been a private reply.

We are getting closer, but the one in the ad was a single engine, I think a Cessna type of aircraft, that had a modified olds engine that actually was the powerplant for the airplane. Thanks for the input!
