I am getting ready to convert the front drums in my 1966 Delta 88 to disks.
Recently I purchased a kit from MBM that comes with just about everything needed for the conversion including a new booster, master cylinder, brake lines and proportioning valve. This kit, however, is designed for Chevrolet full size vehicles and not Oldsmobiles (the kit was advertised as being for '65-'69 Full size Oldsmobiles), so the rotors supplied with the kit are not for my car and cannot be used.
I also purchased a set of spindles from a 1969 Delta 88, and will use them in place of the stock spindles, not the caliper brackets that came with the MBM kit.
Getting ready for this conversion is proving to be more a challenge than I originally thought it would be, as I cannot locate 1969 or 1970 Oldsmobile full size rotors. Kanter, for example, has a listing for them online but asks you to inquire on their availability: they aren't available. I have made other inquiries, and from those that have so far responded, it doesn't sound too promising.
I'm at a loss as I do not know all of the specifications of the original rotors and any applicable part numbers. As of today I have not even seen a photo of a '69 or '70 rotor for a full size Olds. Is there anyone with older catalogues or service manuals that would have this information?
Some have suggested that I use a 1971 to late 1970s rotor, which are widely available. GM made major changes to the B body platform in 1971, altering much of the suspension, steering and braking system particulars, so whether a 1971 rotor will be compatible with a 1969 spindle is questionable.
Any help or insight from others would be greatly appreciated. Once I know where to look or who to contact for compatible rotors, I can go ahead ... the result will be braking action that is as fun and stress-free as the accelerating and cruising part of the ride.
