Hi...i have a 1985 olds delta 88 royale brougham, 307 v-8, 4 barrel, 117,420 miles, automatic trans with overdrive I started driving it again a few weeks ago after it was sitting for 5 yrs. I passed the very tough ca smog test (toughest in the nation) but the car idles rough in park & drive when warm. My mpg is poor & i have no gas leak or gas in oil. I changed the oil 126 miles away, rotated tires, put in fresh coolant & cleaned carb. All vacume hoses are good. The car idles fine when cold but if i drive it & turn it back on it idles rough. Then it smooths out. Also my front end shakes at 55 mph. The steering wheel doesnt shake though. I think i need a front end alignment. The last time the car was aligned the mechanic misaligned it twice & my new front tires wore on both ends badly at 5000 miles. Can anyone give me the corrrect specs so when i get front end aligned ill give it to mechanic (different mechanic & shop). Thanks!

Sounds like you have a case of "old ass car". Lmfao im just kidding, im sure the places should have the machine to get your front end aligned. Goto Midas if there is one around you I am not sure where you live, but if you goto any major place they should have a computerized system to do it. As for the shaking I am not sure what that could be besides maybe a loose belt. Check the pulleys and see if they are good, bearings, belt, ect. They could be getting hot and expanding which would make it a rough idle, and possibly rough driving. I am just pulling stuff outta my butt but it maybe it. Could be something that simple, or could be overheating. Check you temp gauge if you have one, whats your car getting up to?

Isn't the internet a wonderful place for "reliable" information?

Hi steel,

Welcome to TOC.

Quote:
........ passed the very tough ca smog test ........

At a "Test only" station?

"Drive it and turn it back on"? Explain.

........ front end shakes at 55 mph ........

http://www.aa1car.com/library/tire_wear.htm

Any competent front end shop can handle the diagnosis and repair.

Quote:
........ The last time the car was aligned the mechanic misaligned it twice ........

Same shop?

Quote:
........ & my new front tires wore on both ends ........

Both sides? What wear pattern?

Quote:
........ Can anyone give me the correct specs so when i get front end aligned ill give it to mechanic ........

I don't have specs on anything that new, but:

If a front end shop doesn't already have them, they are not qualified to work on your car.

Other than its lack of relevance?

Is that your definition of "reliable information"?
