Well I went out and bought new tires to put on the 18" rims I got. Purchased a set of Bf Goodrich scorcher t/a's for $500. Great tires wet & dry for traction. Had them on the Alero for 4 days and what happens? It's dark and I hit this deep pothole HARD. Well it bent one of the rims and the tire leaked flat. I don't see any visible damage to the tire, but there might be some hidden interior sidewall damage. It just looks like the rim pulled away from the bead and the air leaked out that way. Well my new car looked awesome for 4 days!! i got pics w/ them on, just need to get them developed and scanned in.

:? wait... if the car is already nice (stock) why change it? Plus because it's a Final 500 that's even more reason to leave it alone. Someday it will be worth more if it is left original.

Changing the wheels wasn't a big deal, because it's easy to put the old ones back on and call it original again. The only reason I said he should have left it stock was because If he had the old wheels on there he'd have more rubber between the road and the rims, therefore lowering the chance of damage by potholes etc. (assuming that the new tires he bought have a lower profile than the originals)

Whats wrong with me? lots of things!

All I would ever change is the rims...makes it look better and saves any damage from being done to those special wheels. I would hate to see the price tag on one of those being only 500 of them out there. There's no other damage I could tell, b/c the car drives fine, no shakes or alignment problems.
