yeah so today i brought my car to the garage and threw it on the lift... somehow i broke a transmission mount, and both my rear shocks are leaking... on top of that my alternator has a bad diode and pretty soon its going to eat up my battery... its got me kinda bummed out
Im going to try to do as much as i can myself so i dont have to pay $71.00 an hour for labor... the alternator i can do no problem, and im not too worried about the shocks just yet, but i was wondering just how hard it would be to replace a transmission mount? could i do this in my driveway or will it require a lift? and what happens if i dont replace the mount? any input much appreciated

im not 100 percent sure, but from wat i remember ud have to lift the car with a jack, put it on jack stands than carefully jack up the trannys weight up enough to easily change the mount?

Well... At least you've got the good old fashioned RWD with standard parts to change. Shocks are piece of cake to change, and so's the alternator.

Never done a trans mount before, but I dont imagine it will be all that hard. I wouldnt drive it without doing the mount though... It could lead to bending or breaking other mounts, and thats not a good thing.

Brian, I had to do this on my Delta when I changed the engine/tranny. Actually didn't have to change the mount but had to remove it to get the engine/tranny out more easily. I did it in my driveway with a floor jack and safety stands. As 88delta88 speculated, jack up and put the car on safety stands so you have some working room underneath, then just use the floor jack to lift the tailshaft of the tranny up a little so you can remove the tranny crossmember, Did yours rot out by the framerails? mine did so repaired it before re-installing it. Anyway, it shouldn't be too difficult. Remember, my setup is a 455 with a TH400, both heavier than your setup so it shouldn't be too much trouble. Good luck

thanks, i just gotta wait for a warm weekend to come around so i can get it all done, its 2 degrees out in tolland connecticut right now so im gunna have to wait another week or so before i do anything to it...
