I have a 86 Delta, and I am noticing when I make left turns the tranny seems either to slip or it feels like the cars in neutral. Then after I let off then its fine, Anyone have any idea's?

Start with the easiest thing first, how's the fluid level?

Does it make any noises? Could be a loose belt too...what happens if you turn left in the driveway? Have someone do that and have the hood open...see if the belt slips at all.

Definately sounds like a fluid problem, because the tranny shouldnt care what direction you are turning, the differential takes care of that.

My tranny is starting to slip from 2-3 shift. Especially when you're giving it, it'll growl a bit until it grabs. It wont slip after that though. Brando, there are belts (bands?) in our trannys that can be tightened?

One other thing, Darkinfossil, check the linkage on the tranny, make sure its not loose, and when you turn, it actually pulls the linkage to neutral? Try driving it in 2 instead of drive, and see if it makes any difference when cornering?

No, I meant the drivebelt could be slipping when he said it's like the engine goes in neutral. Just a wild guess really...that would mean loose tensioner.

As far as I know: adjustable bands haven't been used since the mid '60s. Even then they were adjusted once during trans assembly, and any further adjustment would do no good.

Also AFAIK: present day bands are only used to apply reverse gear.
