The EGR is important for emissions controls (a.k.a its gonna fail emissions if it isnt there) The autoshop teacher at my school has a messed up EGR that makes his truck (1989 Ford Ranger V6 run shitty sometimes( when you start it, it dies right away the 1st 1-2 times). I dont know if its being gone will really have any positive affects.........

I took mine right off, but I don't have to pass emissions so it wasn't a problem. If you have to pass emissions definitely leave it.

I don't think your engine is going to be sad without that EGR 73Delta88 :shifty:

On the other hand that 90 3800 engine probably will, just like that ranger. I'm not an expert mechanic.. espicially with fuel injection, but i am pretty sure that that engine NEEDS it in order for it to run the way its supposed to due to the fact that the computer is expecting it to be there. with it disconnected it will probably run like.. well... doo-doo

Side note, why would you want to disconnect it? i can understand on an older carburator engine... well, kinda *from what i've read the 80's 307 actually kinda likes it  *

Are you anticipating a performance increase?

Prior to computers, an EGR valve could be replumbed or disabled, but the distrubutor would need to be recurved and the carb rejetted in order to achieve any positive results.
With a computer you'll get negative results without mods to the rest of your system.
Short answer? If its not working proberly, repair or replace it.
Regards, Norm
